Emily grew up next door to Carroll – in Frederick County. Her dad is a lifelong entrepreneur and small business owner. Her mom worked nights bartending while she finished her college degree and raised three kids. Emily and her siblings learned from an early age the importance of hard work, perseverance, and family. After graduating high school, Emily went to Towson University where she majored in Business. She married Mark Shank and his job took them to San Diego for a few years. Emily always knew she wanted to be a lawyer, so while in San Diego, Emily went to Thomas Jefferson School of Law where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.
But Emily always was a Maryland girl at heart. So right after graduation, she and Mark moved home to Maryland and started their family. They eventually settled in Eldersburg where they are raising their two beautiful (and alarmingly smart) daughters: Mae and Effie. Emily is a practicing attorney at Stoner, Preston & Boswell, Chartered in Westminster, MD, where she practices general civil litigation, family law, landlord tenant, and juvenile criminal defense. When she isn’t running around wrangling toddlers or cases, she is active in her community: volunteering at her children’s school, conducting Know Your Rights Trainings with the ACLU, and volunteering at the Carroll County Family Law Clinic.
She is running for office to ensure that her daughters, and all the children in Carroll County, have the same opportunities she did.
